The Aston Martin DB11 Volante and Ferrari Portofino are two of the most overindulgent drop-top sports GTs imaginable. So which one wins at Top Trumps?
Big, fast, sumptuous, and open-topped, the likes of the Aston Martin DB11 Volante and Ferrari Portofino seem to have it all; supercar looks and performance with GT comfort and luxury. You can read more about these two lavish convertibles in our first drives, but read on to have a look at the numbers side-by-side, and to have a flick through the pics while you’re there, too.
These two are very close to one another. Both are big, front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports-convertibles with 90-degree V8s bolted into the nose and 2+2 seating in the cabin. However, the DB11 gets a fabric roof while the Portofino is one of very few cars these days to offer a folding hard-top – even more impressive when you look at the kerbweight.
Enough of our rambling, here are the numbers…

Which one wins?
We’ve got to give it to the Ferrari Portofino, here. It’s got more power, and it’s usefully faster and lighter, plus that hard-top roof has appeal in terms of security for such an attention-seeking car. For all that, in a head-to-head we reckon the Aston Martin might come out on top for simply having more soul and more want-one factor, but that’s all a bit subjective for a round of Top Trumps. So when it comes to numbers, Maranello takes the top step on this two-car podium.
